Over the past eight years, NetStar-1 personnel have developed a close working relationship with the MedStar Health – an eight hospital, non-profit, community-based healthcare organization serving the Baltimore/Washington region. Among the many tasks we’ve been led over the years, NetStar-1 has provided design, deployment and support staff for critical network and communications projects.

NetStar-1 personnel work with MedStar to develop a design and implementation plan that upgraded the system’s networks while providing the required level of connectivity and security. The implementation process also ensured minimal impact to the facilities 24x7 operation. In addition to the separation and enhancement efforts, we led projects that completely re-addressed the network, implemented an enterprise-wide DHCP system, as well as multiple VLAN and firewall-based security zones.

NetStar-1’s personnel designed and implemented a high-speed backbone network that could provide scalable bandwidth to support ever increasing data bandwidth requirements, while also providing voice connectivity support and Voice Over IP technologies. The WAN backbone provided direct connectivity to each of the major MedStar sites and also provides Frame Relay Service Interworking connectivity to remote and smaller sites. Redundancy is provided via alternate paths and through lease line connections.

NetStar-1’s staff has also provided support to MedStar on the assessment, technology evaluation, design and deployment of a wireless network which will provide secured connectivity throughout the MedStar facilities. The design was used as the backbone planning document for our work in implementing a wire- and wireless-based VoIP solution for MedStar’s “ER-1” Emergency Room – which provides critical care to patients throughout the DC metropolitan area.
